- French Polynesia Moorea is a short ferry hop from Papeete and Bora Bora a further island flight, so a two-island split is easy: volcanic peaks first, an overwater villa to finish.
- The Maldives Overwater villas reached by seaplane from Malé. Seaplanes fly in daylight only, so an evening arrival often means a night near the airport first — worth building into the flights.
- Amalfi Coast & Capri Positano and Ravello with a day boat to Capri. Many coastal hotels open seasonally, and the Schengen area asks for a passport valid at least three months beyond the day you leave.
- Kauaʻi & Hawaiʻi Island No passport, no ocean crossing. Pair the Nā Pali coast with volcano country on the Big Island; humpback whales are in Hawaiian waters roughly November through April, peaking January to March.
- St. Lucia & the Eastern Caribbean Rainforest, the Pitons and quiet water, a direct flight from many U.S. hubs. Atlantic hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30 and peaks around September 10, so late-summer dates trade lower rates for risk.
- Cape Town & a South African safari City, wine country and coast, then a private reserve for game drives. The dry winter months of roughly May to September thin the bush and draw wildlife to water.

When to Start, and What Goes First
Honeymoon inventory is shallow at the top. A resort may hold dozens of standard rooms and a handful in the category people actually want, so the best rooms go long before the cheap ones.
Seasonality decides as much as timing. Southern Africa’s dry winter, roughly May to September, is when game viewing is easiest. Humpback whales are in Hawaiian waters from about November to April. Atlantic hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30 and peaks around September 10. We match your dates to the destination, not the other way around.

Planning tip
The Name on the Ticket Has to Match the Name on the Passport
This is the most common honeymoon problem, and it is entirely avoidable. Book every flight, train and transfer in the exact name printed on the document you will carry on travel day — your passport for anywhere outside the United States. Identity is verified at the checkpoint, and a mismatch is not something to discover the morning after the wedding.

When should we start planning our honeymoon?
Earlier than the wedding planning makes it feel possible. Nine to twelve months out gives the best choice for peak dates and for resorts holding only a handful of top-category rooms. Six months suits shoulder-season travel, and three still works for domestic honeymoons. If your window is shorter, send it anyway and we will tell you what is genuinely available.
I am changing my last name. Whose name should our flights be booked in?
The name on the ID you will actually carry — your passport for any trip abroad. TSA verifies identity at the checkpoint, so a boarding pass in a married name beside a passport in a maiden name is a problem you do not want the morning after the wedding. Most couples travel on the passport they already hold and change it afterward. If you want the new name in time, the State Department uses Form DS-5504 within a year of issue and DS-82 after that — see its guidance on changing a passport name (opens in a new tab).
Can we split the honeymoon between two destinations?
Yes, and it is one of the things we are asked for most. The usual shape is something active first — a safari, a city, a hiking island — then somewhere you do very little. What matters is the join: realistic connection times, the right order so the long flight is not the last thing you do, and enough nights in each place to unpack once.
Is it a bad idea to honeymoon during hurricane season?
Not automatically, but decide it with the facts. Atlantic hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30, with most activity between mid-August and mid-October and a peak around September 10. Caribbean and Mexico rates are lower for that reason. If those are your only dates, we suggest islands farther from the usual storm tracks and explain what each supplier will refund.
Can you arrange the special-occasion details, or do we ask at check-in?
In advance, every time. A request made at the desk on arrival depends on who happens to be working that shift. We note the occasion on every reservation, ask in writing for what matters to you, and tell you which items are complimentary, which cost extra and which the hotel can only record as a request.
What happens if our wedding date moves or we need to delay the trip?
Tell us early and we work through it supplier by supplier. Airlines, hotels and tour operators set their own change and cancellation terms, and those are the terms that apply. We cannot override them, but we can tell you what each says, what a move would cost and where changing dates beats canceling.
